Today we’re going to look at words and phrases that have recently bee part of the English language.,Chen Li: 在今天地纯正英语节目里,我们要学习那个新词?,Vicki : Today’s new word is ‘rip off’.,Chen Li: Rip off. 能解释一下吗?,Vicki : Rip off means to cheat someone, to make them pay too much for something.,Chen Li: 我明白了,rip off 的意思是欺骗人的意思,在汉语里类似敲竹杠或宰客的意思. 你能再说的再详细一点吗?,Vicki : Sure. Rip off can be a noun, so, you might say ‘don’t go to see that film. it’s a rip off’.,Chen Li: 意思是说,看那部电影就是浪费钱,那家电影院是在欺骗人,宰客.,Vicki : Well, Yes. You can also use it as a verb. You might say ‘I think the waiter ripped us off with the restaurant bill.
