据了解，广州首个二代病例出现后，广东省疾控中心和中山大学都在进行两代病毒的对比，暂时还没有结果。“病毒的分离、研究、比对还需要一段时间。”何剑峰说。
他认为，目前有些病例感染源未明，再追究是哪种传播途径已没太大意义，因为有些病例传染源无从查起。可以说“甲流病毒发生社区传染将不可避免”，但究竟什么时候发生、以何种形式发生，目前尚不得而知，“担心的是大面积暴发”。
何剑峰同时指出，让专家们最担心的是甲流病毒发生变异。但变异也可能朝着两个方向走：更轻或更重。就算是重，也要分两种情况来看，即究竟是引起的病情重了，还是传播力更强了。为此广东的专家正严密监测病毒变异的发生。一个多月来，从该病毒整个发生、发展的趋势来看，“目前还是朝着专家想要的方向进展，即确诊患者症状都比较轻，未有危重病例。”
专家指出，需要注意的是，今冬明春或稍晚些时候，一旦病毒在我国出现广泛传播或流行，短期内出现较多病人时，如果我们没有做好准备，对重症患者不能及时救治，死亡病例将会发生。
为应对内地可能出现的甲型H1N1流感的社区暴发，中国疾控中心公布了《甲型H1N1流感预防干预措施应用技术指南(试行)》。建议出现流感样症状的患者进行“分类就诊”：轻症病例应减少不必要的就诊，可居家休息和隔离治疗；重症病例和易引起严重并发症的高危人群应及时就诊；疑似或确诊甲型H1N1流感病例应到指定医院隔离治疗。

根据既往世界流感大流行的特点及我国历年季节性流感流行规律，专家们推测，在今年秋冬季节，流感防控将有一场硬仗要打。
中国疾病预防控制中心甲型H1N1流感防控工作办公室技术准备组副组长罗会明介绍说，5月底，卫生部已发布了《指南》，我国地域辽阔，不同地区的疫情可能会处在不同流行阶段，各地防控具体对策应因时因地而异。
“及时发现病例，控制传染源，仍是我国现阶段疫情防控的主要手段。”罗会明强调，下一步，随着甲型H1N1流感病例的增多，全国流感监测网络将重点关注流感样病例哨点医院检测系统、暴发疫情的调查处理。减少疫情对生命健康或社会经济的危害，将是今后全国疫情防控重点。

基于目前甲型H1N1流感疫情的新形势，中国疾控中心流行病学首席专家曾光教授指出，甲型H1N1流感病毒的反季节传播能力超出预期，尽管中国已大大降低其传播速度，但仍需克服对甲型H1N1流感的“防范疲劳”。
目前中国输入性病例全部都是在国外感染的，发生输入性病例后往往会发生二代病例。这是因为甲型H1N1流感病毒是一种新型流感病毒，人群对其普遍缺乏免疫力，容易引起人际间的传播。世卫组织公布的一些数据显示，季节性流感的续发率在10%—15％之间，而甲型H1N1流感的续发率在22%—23％之间，其传染性强于季节性流感。
“目前中国在发现和控制输入性病例和减少二代病例方面显示了强大的监测和预防控能力，大大降低了甲型H1N1流感的传播速度，使中国处于有利的防治形势。”曾光说。但他同时指出，强大的应对能力，只能及时发现和有效控制症状明确的输入性病例，不能改变输入增多的现实，也不能杜绝二代病例的发生。由于甲型H1N1流感病例在潜伏期末即有传染性，还有一部分感染者症状轻微甚至不发热却可以起到传染源的作用，因此每个国家都有可能突然发现本土传播，中国也难以例外，对此中国也已有对策。
