UNIT 1 what make you feel happy 1. What makes you happy? Are you happy when others are happy? Different individuals feel happy for different reasons. For my own part, Happiness is to be found along the journey of my life. I firmly believe that Happiness lies just in our own hand and every second can offer us happiness if you hold for the positive attitude that Life is wonderful in spite of its trials and troubles. For example, living healthily with a good appetite and sleeping, sparing no effort to complete a difficult assignment, enjoy my favourite music and charming scenery, staying with my families and friends, giving love and caring heart for others ,or just as now, I feel happy to share my opinion with you. needless to say, .human's happies is not limited to one's fortune or success but just a taste of mind, I keep this in mind ,and enjoy my life with a sweet smile. I can't list out. all the reasons, but one thing is for sure, I fell extremely happy when others are happy .From my prospective, when you help to pull some on through the difficulties or sharing with their happiness, it seems that the happiness turn into doubled. Only we interact with others' feelings can we fuse with their lives. If you envy of others happiness, you may be depressed and isolated with the community. in a word, it will spoil your good mood. As a matter of fact, from my bottom of my heart I hope that everyone can live in a happy life so that the world we live can be more and more harmonious.UNIT2 Would you eat genetically modified food? Why or why not? From my perspective, every coin has its two sides, and genetically modified foods have its merit and demerit too. I am stand on the neutrality place about the argument of genetically modified foods. On one hand, genetically modified foods have some potential crisis in health, society, morality and so on. The scientist didn’t make sure does genetically modified food haven’t bad effects on people’s health. Maybe, this kind of food would influence not only health, but also intelligence. On the other hand, obviously, genetically modified food did make contribution to the food crisis of the world. Besides, it shows its advantage of price. As a result, the people who cannot afford the unmodified foods can afford it. Genetically modified foods saved many people who are in danger of hungry in our world. It is extraordinary good way to deal with the problem of the inconsistent between the growing population and diminishing plough. On the contrary, genetically modified food spring up more and more problem on health and society currently. Therefore, the government is supposed to take effective effort to make sure the quality of genetically modified foods. Because the security of genetically modified foods is closely related to people’s health. What’s more the government ought to supervise the company to make the right sign of modified or unmodified food. We also have rights to decide if we should buy the genetically modified foods to eat or use them in other way. In conclusion, we are not supposed to oppose genetically modified foods too intensely or refuse to eat genetically modified foods in order to protect ourselves. We should be a wise customer who can choose the right food to ourselves. As a result, we can lead a quality and healthy life.UNIT3 let us beat the swords into ploughshares To commemorate the first World Peace Conference held in the Soviet sculptor Evgeny Victor Petrovich character cut Silajdzic created a "swords into plowshares," the bronze statue, sculpture of the young people in one hand hammer, one hand holding to change the cast plow sword, a symbol of the human desire to eliminate war, to destroy mankind into weapon creation tool to the benefit of all. This bronze statue in 1959 by the then Soviet government presented to the United Nations reserved for a permanent memorial, it is still placed in the garden with other countries within the United Nations presented to the United Nations, decorated with sculptures in front of the UN building Square Garden
UNIT4 Imagine that the ship was in trouble. What could the explorers do to help themselves? What other difficulties do you think the explorers had in Antarctica? I think first of all should recognize the difficulties encountered in severity to see which place is out of the question if the vessel fails, you can stop for maintenance, if it is caused by poor conditions, they can wait for the weather improved during the voyage, during which we should unite and save food for emergencies, but also a little rest and restore energy and other weather improves better starting sailing, Explorers may encounter, such as food shortages, vessel damage can not be repaired, lost contact with the outside world, and so unfavorable factors, may also be caught in a blizzard and other inclement weather, this is the test of time explorers courage and spirit of the time.UNIT5 It’s harmful for children to watch a lot of TV children under three shouldn’t watch any television and children above three should control their time on TV. Parents should also watch and control their children’s time on TV watching strictly(严格地). too much TV watching can lead to many problems in children such as difficulty in sleeping and overweight. And the government must take action. there should be no TV sets in children’s bedrooms and parents should be warned of the bad effects of too much television.UNIT6 What is different about how adults and children learn? The first difference is that children are not concerned with the time spent in class. They know they must be there for a certain amount of time, and they accept that fact. When it comes to the adult learner, their responsibilities often compete with their desire to learn. The adult learner's responsibilities far exceed those of children. These learners must manage their time very well to accommodate their classroom and study time. The second difference is that older adolescents and adults are impatient learners. They have specific goals they are trying to achieve, and these goals are what drive their acquisition of classroom knowledge. Children, however, are not in a hurry to acquire knowledge in a particular amount of time. The next difference is children need a great deal of direction when it comes to the learning process. If their activities are not teacher directed, chaos and confusion are the result. Adult learners enjoy self direction. The teacher becomes a facilitator more than instructor. An additional difference between children and the adult learner is children are prone to learning information by rote or memory. The adult learner’s approach is acquisition of knowledge from practical everyday experiences and knowledge. They prefer to learn by doing rather than listening to lectures in a classroom environment. Finally, the adult learner may have auditory or vision discrimination problems. They might not be able to see images and words on computer screens as clearly as children. Unlike children, these learners may not have had a vision or hearing test for years. The glasses they wear may be an outdated prescription or belong to a friend. In conclusion, there are numerous other differences between adult learners and children. I have merely touched the surface with my comparisons. So, the next time you encounter an adult learner, remember they are no longer children sitting in the classrooms but older, wiser more experienced learners who are eager to make their contributions to our world.UNIT7 Do you think there is intelligent life on other planets? Why or why not? 1. With the almost infinite number of galaxies, planetary systems and planets there is most certainly life out there somewhere. As to what it looks like, just look at all the sci-fi movies, because life evolves in the manner best suitable for survival in the environment. So, they could look like anything, and be at any level of development. Also, if there is other life out there, and it is intelligent, and it ever visits, that will pretty much blow the Judeo-Christian/Islamic religio-mumbo-jumbo out of the water. Of course, the organized religion will try to adapt their "scriptures" and philosophies to cope, but intelligent life elsewhere will pretty much put the whole god and afterlife thing to bed (hopefully). 2. Sure there is life on other planets. There are far too many planets out there in the universe for conditions not to exist that are conducive to establishment of life. Probably there are millions of planets just like Earth out there. Where life exists there will be a wide range of life forms (just like Earth) from simple single celled bacteria, to plants and intelligent life--people. When something works it works elsewhere... that is the basis of convergence. So most living intelligent beings on this planet have their sensors (for seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling) close to their brains on one end of their bodies and so will this happen on other planets too. It is very likely that even people may develop in other places of the universe that look much like people on Earth and may even be passably "human".UNIT8 How do you decide what is right and wrong? Family beliefs? Something else?Religious teachings? Personal feelings? The law?UNIT9UNIT10 Think of a negotiation you have had with someone. What was the problem? How did you negotiate? What was the result?UNIT11 Are you a risk-taker or do you prefer to play it safe? Describe something risky you have done. How did you feel about it?UNIT 12 Look at the picture .
