RNA剪辑
在真核细胞中的核苷酸序列中间插入与氨基酸编码无关的DNA间隔区段，使一个有功能的结构基因分隔成不连续的若干区段，将该间隔区段的DNA片断称为断裂基因（split gene）,然而这种断裂基因可随同结构基因先转录初级转录物，形成前体mRNA，但在真核细胞中可通过切割和连线加工而除去由内含子转录成的无关转录物，便产生了由结构基因转录的mRNA，即形成了有功能的成熟mRNA.进而合成蛋白质多肽链，在原核细胞（大肠杆菌中）中无此类切割加工功能。此种在mRNA切割加工过程中，其转录物被剪除掉的相应的DNA部分，叫做间隔序列（intervening sequence），或称内含子（intron）,被保留下来的相应的DNA分子叫做编码序列或表达子（exon）,实际上就是有功能的结构基因DNA序列。而这种内含子的删除和表达子的连线，形成最后的成熟mRNA过程，称为RNA剪辑（RNA splicing）。
