冰川学家兼气象学家莫妮卡·克里斯滕森·索拉斯多次领导并参与了在北极和南极的极地探险。在其中两次探险中，她有一个目标是找回罗尔德·亚孟森曾用过的探险帐篷，但是来自自然界的诸多阻碍，比如她队伍中的一位男队员不幸跌落冰隙遇难，迫使她放弃了这个目标。早在1989年，她因取得的成就而成为了近五十年来首位获得伦敦皇家地理学会颁发的创始人金奖的女性。此外，她还出版了一本讲述发生在斯瓦尔巴的故事的犯罪小说，这本小说在国际上广获赞誉。

1992年，丽芙·阿内森（Liv Arnesen）穿越了格陵兰冰原，成为第一位不靠外界帮助完成这一壮举的女性。两年后，在一次为期50天、全长1200公里的滑雪探险中，她成为第一位在没有任何帮助的情况下只身滑雪到达南极点的女性。在2000年和2001年的三个月里，她与美国探险家安·班克罗夫特（Ann Bancroft）合作，成为首批穿越南极地区的女性。她还写了几本与她的专业有关的书，包括Snille piker går ikke til Sydpolen（好女孩不会滑雪去南极点）。

卡齐分别在1990年和1992年到达北极和南极，随后又在1994年登顶珠峰。这使他成为首个完成“南北极长征挑战“（即抵达南北极并登上珠峰）的人。

无论是否上镜，塞西莉在攀登山峰时都面带微笑，她因此成为了挪威的标志性人物。塞西莉·斯科格攀登过七大峰顶峰，七大峰是指每个大洲最高的山峰。她还是一位极地探险家。2009年，她与美国人赖恩·沃特斯一起花费70天时间，行走1800公里，从南极的一侧海岸抵达另一侧海岸。2006年，她克服诸多意料不到的严酷考验，用了近50天时间抵达了北极点。
