日本围棋术语的音译。
历史上的第一本英文围棋书,是美国人亚瑟·史密斯(Arthur Smith)自费
出版的《围棋:日本国技》(The Game of G The National Game of Japan,
1908)。此书中的围棋术语全是日文音译,加以英文注释。自1911年起,美
国的围棋爱好者陆陆续续开始翻译一些日本的围棋文章和著作。当时西方的
围棋市场很小,翻译成英文的日本围棋著作都没有正式出版。日本围棋著作
英译本的正式出版发行是1960年代后期的事了。
美国的围棋先驱卡尔·戴维斯·鲁宾逊(Karl Davis Robinson,1884-1961)
与W.D.威特(W.D. Witt)曾在1937年讨论过有关日本围棋术语的英译问题。
威特预测,把日本围棋术语完全翻译为相应的英文可能需要50年到200年的
时间。鲁宾逊的意见是尽可能地使用倭国围棋术语,而威特则希望为所有的
日本围棋术语找到合适的英文对应。
现在,部分日本围棋术语的英译确实达到了威特的要求,但更多的仍然是音
译。英文吸收大量了的外来语,多一些围棋术语其实也无妨。
下面是在下列出的一批常见英文围棋术语。每一项的第一个词(大多数情况)
是日本围棋术语的日文读音。接下来,有的有用括号标出的英文翻译或注释,
有的没有。最后是中文解释。括号中的英文翻译(如果短的话)往往就是现
在经常使用的英文围棋术语。加(*)表示常用的重要的围棋术语。
例如,aji,atari,等等都没有对应的英文翻译,可以直接用。
“furikawari”意为“转换、交换”,现在一般用“exchange”或“trade”。
有个英文网站(:senseis.xmp.),上面有许多英文围棋术语及其
解释,可以弥补在下此表所列之不足,有兴趣者可以去看一看。
