虽然如今的西班牙很世俗，但历史上的西班牙就不一样了，1478年开始的西班牙宗教裁判所曾经是整个欧洲的白色恐怖。

000 people were executed. The Inquisition was finally abolished in 1834.
1478年，教皇授权西班牙国王费迪南五世发动了西班牙宗教大审判，其间很多人忍受酷刑来证明自己是真正的基督徒。随着大审判的恐怖席卷欧洲，成千的皈依者逃离了西班牙。在大审判的前50年里就有5000人被处决了。大审判最终到1834年才废除。
